Why You’ll Love It

• The Maison & White footed stem elevates the bowl above the table surface, giving a trifle or layered dessert a centrepiece presence on a dining table that a flat-based bowl cannot achieve, drawing the eye to the layers of the dessert from across the table before serving begins — Flat-based glass bowls sit level with the table surface and are easily overlooked among other dishes until the host begins to serve from them, and the base of the bowl is not visible from a seated position across the table — the footed stem on this Maison & White bowl raises the dessert to a height that makes it visible from a seated position and gives the presentation a formal, considered appearance that signals to guests that the dessert has been prepared specifically to impress rather than assembled in a functional container.
• The Maison & White 2-litre capacity and 19cm diameter provide enough volume and surface area to build a proper trifle with distinct, visible layers of sponge, custard, cream and fruit across the full depth of the bowl without the layers compressing into each other when the bowl is filled to serving depth — Smaller trifle bowls with capacities below 1.5 litres or diameters below 16cm restrict the depth available for each layer, causing the sponge, custard and cream layers to be thinner than intended and making the layers less distinct when viewed through the glass, which reduces the visual impact of the dessert at the table — the 2-litre, 16cm depth of this bowl provides sufficient room for each layer to be built to a meaningful thickness that remains clearly defined and visible through the glass when the bowl is presented at the table.
• Handmade construction gives the Maison & White bowl a quality of finish and slight individuality of form that machine-pressed glass bowls cannot replicate, making it a more considered gift than a mass-produced equivalent at a similar price point — Machine-pressed glass bowls have identical dimensions across every unit and a uniform surface finish that gives them a functional rather than artisan appearance, which is apparent to recipients who compare them against handmade glassware — the handmade construction of this bowl produces a finish with the subtle character of traditional glassware techniques, giving it an artisan quality that reads as a thoughtful, considered gift choice for birthdays, housewarmings and celebrations rather than a functional purchase.
